W. Jim Cortese is honored to speak to the members of the Lions Club of Dandridge.
The Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International, a global volunteer service organization built around strengthening communities and supporting people in need. That spirit of service makes the program a natural fit for Cortese, whose nearly 50 years in arboriculture have centered on helping people better understand, care for, and value the trees around them.
Cortese’s program will focus on notable trees in Tennessee, a subject closely connected to his decades of work as an arborist, forestry consultant, and advocate for historic and heritage trees. Throughout his career, he has helped identify, document, and preserve significant trees and landscapes across Tennessee, including work connected to historic and heritage tree recognition.
The talk will invite members to think about trees not only as part of the landscape, but as living markers of memory, place, history, and community.
This upcoming program follows Cortese’s recent garden club program and is part of his continued work sharing tree stories, arboriculture knowledge, and community-focused reflections with local groups.
Cortese is the author of John Muir Climbs a Tree and Other Tree Tales, a unique anthology devoted entirely to stories about trees. The book brings together history, folklore, reflection, and personal connection to explore the many ways trees shape human life.
